Savonnerie

Famous for their high pile and carved designs, the Savonnerie carpets were first made for King Louis XIV’s palace in Versaille. Since many carpets were needed for the palace and transporting them from faraway places was difficult, these rugs were made in an old soap factory (savonnerie, in French) nearby.
